Am I too young or too old to have chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care can be useful at any age for musculoskeletal conditions. We treat newborns to 95-year-olds! We alter our treatment techniques so it is comfortable for every individual.

For most children, the elderly, and any child under the age of two, we do not manually adjust. Instead, we use gentle mobilisation and craniosacral techniques to deliver our treatment.

Do I need a referral to see a Chiropractor?

No, it is not necessary to have a referral from your GP, however, we do take GP referrals.

If you are coming to us under an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC), or Chronic Disorder Management Plan (CDM) prepared by your GP for chiropractic care, then you must bring the plan to us at your appointment. Medicare will subsidise a portion of your treatment fee and you only pay the gap. We will process this on the day for you, so you do not need to go to Medicare yourself.

How do I prepare for my first visit?

There is not a lot you need to do prior to your first visit. It would be helpful to bring along any previous imaging, such as x-rays, CT, MRI scans that you may have. Also, any relevant medical information regarding medications and test results will be useful too.

Please dress in comfortable clothes so it does not restrict your movement. Sometimes, it may be necessary for you to change you into a gown. Don’t worry, we will always preserve your modesty!

And don’t forget to bring your health fund card. It’s that easy!

What should I expect during my first consultation?

On your arrival at the clinic, we will ask you to fill out our New Patient Form. Once completed, you will have a thorough history taken with the Chiropractor. This will cover the reason for your visit, medical history, and discuss any previous injuries. A physical examination will follow, then the Chiropractor will discuss the treatment plan that is best suited for your condition. We will discuss any concerns you have and take written consent. Once that is done, we can then begin your treatment to less pain and greater mobility and send you off with follow up advice.

Do I need to have X-rays?

It will depend on the information obtained by your Chiropractor from the history and examination of whether x-rays will be required. If we deem it necessary, we will write you a request form. You can have the x-rays taken at a time and facility that suits you. If you have a Medicare Card, the spinal x-rays can be bulk-billed.

What should I expect after my visit?

What you will experience after your treatment will depend entirely upon what we treat and how we treat it. Our aim is to provide you with relief, However, treatment may induce some temporary tenderness or inflammation for 24-48 hours in the area as healing occurs. Your Chiropractor will give you advice on how to manage your condition post-treatment.

In most cases to remove pain and inflammation, place an ice pack (wrapped in a tea towel) over the inflamed area for 15mins. Remove it for 15 minutes, then reapply it again for a further 15mins. You can use this pattern up to 5x a day.

If you are concerned with your post-treatment symptoms, please call us so we can further advise you on your condition.

Do I have to come back again?

Depending on the condition you present with, it will depend on the frequency for follow up treatment if required. If you present with an acute case, we may advise closer sessions to reduce your pain and discomfort. Once the inflammation from the injury settles, we will lengthen out your sessions. During this time, we will encourage the return of the correct muscle and joint movement patterns with rehabilitation exercises.

Can I use my health fund for Chiropractic?

Yes, it will if you have Chiropractic services taken out under your Extras Cover. You may receive a rebate (part or full) by all major private health funds. The amount of rebate will depend on your level of cover. If you are unsure about your coverage or rebate, contact your health fund for the information.

We also have HICAPS installed at our practice. If you bring your health fund card to the appointment, we can swipe your card on the day. This way, you can claim on the spot and only pay the gap, avoiding a visit to the health fund. If you forget your card at the appointment, that is ok. We can issue you with a receipt that you can then take to the health fund for claiming.

Are Chiropractors registered practitioners?

Australian Chiropractors are University trained and have completed a five-year Bachelor of Chiropractic and Master of Chiropractic degree. Practicing Chiropractors are government registered and regulated health professionals (AHPRA). We have to adhere to strict guidelines set out by the Chiropractic Board of Australia and AHPRA. We have to complete continued professional development to prove our skills and stay current on the latest scientific research to maintain our registration.

Do all Chiropractors treat the same way?

No, not all Chiropractors treat the same. At University, they teach us several Chiropractic techniques which often Chiropractors use as the foundation for their treatments. For registration, all Chiropractors must maintain a certain level of education each year to continue to treat patients and this is where we do our post-graduate studies and learn different techniques. This is why we treat differently. In our clinic, we use Diversified and Drop Piece adjusting techniques, alongside more gentle techniques of Flexion-Distraction, Activator, Professional Applied Kinesiology, Neuro Emotional Technique, Craniosacral therapy, NeuroKinetic Therapy, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation and Retained Neonatal Reflexes.
